About US
More Than Six Decades of Technical Excellence
Our Vision & Ethos
Established in 1965, Hoër Tegniese Skool Springs was founded as a dual-medium institution serving a pioneering cohort of 186 learners. Our evolution into a specialist Technical High School in 1973 set a clear course, one defined by growth, adaptation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Following a period of significant expansion, the late 1970s and early 1980s were a time of focused development. Under the leadership of Principal Mr JHG Struwig, the school embarked on transformative change, most notably enrolling its first female student in 1983 and instilling a lasting culture of high achievement in academics, sport, and culture.
The turn of the millennium marked a historic renaissance. On 1 January 2000, the school proudly reclaimed its foundational ethos, transitioning to become a dual-medium, multicultural high school. This pivotal step opened a new chapter of inclusivity and opportunity, exemplified by the enrolment of Springbok player Lawrence Sephaka and the fostering of numerous world-class talents.
The past two decades have solidified our reputation as a leader in vocational education. Under Principal Mrs Marina Rathe, our curriculum expanded significantly with six new technical fields, from Automotive to Electronics, while strategic industry partnerships secured vital learnerships and bursaries for our students.
Today, under the guidance of Principal Ms. Puseletso Hoaeane, we continue to innovate. The piloting of a Vocational Occupational Curriculum and powerful alliances with partners like SKF South Africa and the Institution of Maths exemplify our forward momentum. These collaborations provide extraordinary opportunities, such as our Under-14 girls’ football team competing in the 2025 Gothia Cup in Sweden, and targeted academic enhancement programmes.
From our origins to our present standing as a thriving community of 1 100 students, Hoër Tegniese Skool Springs’s history is a testament to resilient progress. We honour our past as we actively shape the future, equipping every learner with the skills, values, and opportunities to excel.
